Planning for your future

Planning for your future

If you’re getting older or have an elderly relative, do you know what you need to know about future care and support options? The care system can be a puzzle so it’s really important to have a bit of knowledge upfront, to stop you having to make decisions in a crisis.

Hampshire County Council is working together with Surrey County Council and Age UK Surrey  to help people better understand the choices open to them and ways to stay independent in later life.

A free online presentation will take you through the types of care, typical costs, how technology can help, why we should set up a Power of Attorney and much more.

The presentation will be delivered by Age UK Surrey but it’s relevant to all, no matter where you live. Whether for yourself or a loved one, book now for Tuesday 11 March, 7pm.

Looking after yourself

There are lots of healthy habits you can do now to start looking after yourself.

Keep moving - incorporating exercise into your day helps you maintain a healthy weight and strengthens muscles which reduces the risk of falling. Other great benefits to movement include improving your thinking skills, and making some new friends. You can find local sports and exercise groups in Hampshire in our Community Directory. Stay connected with people - read our information and advice about staying connected

Carry on living at home

Most people want to live at home for as long possible - it's familiar, it feels safe and you can retain some independence. Too many people think that a care home is the only option. But you can receive care in your own home provided by friends or family or paid care workers. You can find care to help you manage at home in our Home Care directory. You can also make adaptations to your own home using pieces of equipment and technology. See our information and advice about getting equipment and technology in your own home, and see our equipment house for ideas of how it can help you.
